Sport Integrity

Sport integrity is about keeping competition fair, honest, and ethical. It ensures that athletes, coaches, referees, and others compete or participate on equal terms, with results decided by skill and effort—not by corruption, manipulation, or misconduct. When integrity is compromised, trust in the outcome of sport disappears.

Integrity safeguards more than the scoreboard. It protects athletes’ careers, keeps fans’ confidence in the game, and preserves the credibility of governing bodies and organizations. A single violation, whether intentional or not, can lead to serious professional and personal consequences.

What counts as a Violation?

Sport integrity cases can take many forms, including:

  • Competition manipulation or match-fixing – influencing the result of a game or event.

  • Betting and gambling breaches – violating restrictions on wagering in connection with sport.

  • Bribery and corruption – offering or receiving improper benefits to sway decisions or performance.

  • Conflicts of interest – failing to disclose or manage outside influences that compromise fairness.

  • Unethical conduct – behavior that undermines honesty, respect, or fair play.

Potential Consequences

  • Suspensions or permanent bans from competition or participation

  • Loss of medals, records, rankings, or coaching certifications

  • Significant reputational damage, both personally and professionally

  • Financial losses, including fines and terminated sponsorships
